Species that exist only in a limited geographic region. They are unique to a certain area or region and found nowhere else in the world. They can be endemic to small (such as lakes, mountains, and forests) and large areas (whole archipelago).
Due to a large variety of ecosystems, the Philippines is one of the countries with the highest rate of endemism.
Example of endemic species that are used as a source of food are littuko (Calamus manilensis), Batuan (Garcinia binucao), Panawil (Leptosolena haenkei), etc.
